WAV

Waveform Audio File also konown as WAV files retain all of the original information, making them excellent for professional musicians.

“WAV provides a wider frequency range and bit depth,” Lo Boutillette, a talented producer as well as sound converter, says of her favorite format. “It’s of the greatest grade,” Berry confirms. “It could be 24-bit, 32-bit, well all way up to 192kHz sampling frequency and even more these days.”

WAV keeps its time coding when cooperating and exchanging data back and forward on. This is incredibly beneficial for video projects that require accurate synchronization.

AIFF

Audio Interchange File Format or AIFF files, which were formed by Apple, are equivalent to WAV files in that they maintain all of the original track and consume more space than MP3s. They can be listened on both Macs as well as PCs, but also because they don’t save time codes, they’re fewer useful for editing nor mixing.

DSD

Direct Stream Digital is a high-resolution, uncompressed audio format. These files use pulse-density modulation to encode sound. They are extremely huge, with sample rates up to 64 times that of a standard audio CD, necessitating the use of top-of-the-line audio equipment.
