To be successful as a band on the Internet, it takes more than a bit of Social Media Marketing on Facebook. I will go into all the useful tools and provide helpful tips on how to do so. Here is the basis that every musician and every band should heed.
Yesterday I showed an infographic in which it became clear what possibilities musicians have today to earn money on the Internet with their music. As one of the first reactions, the demand arose, but first to show how to do it. Well, of course, it’s not that easy again. But I can give a lot of tips on how you can do it better than the others.
It’s best to start with the standards that every band or musician should heed if he wants to use the Internet successfully for himself.
NO SUCCESS WITHOUT A MARKETING PLAN
Songs are often created while jamming or by trying a lot. But if you want to be successful on the Internet, then nothing works without a plan. Sit down together and:
- develop a strategy
- set achievable goals
- get to know your fans
- listen to them carefully
- analyze your target group
- set timelines for the goals
- gradually works off the points
A BAND HOMEPAGE IS NOT A “MAYBE” BUT AN ABSOLUTE MUST
It’s so nice and simple and cheap on top of that. There are constant complaints about the free culture of the fans, but even then you are only on Facebook, eh? Somehow does not fit at all and is also extremely ineffective. Hardly any booker or organizer will consider you professional if you only have a Facebook fan page. Get a cool homepage and show that you are also professionals in this area.
SOCIAL MEDIA IS NOT FOR SELF-PROMOTERS
If you talk to someone after a gig and they talk about the rest of the evening, what do you do with them? Correct! You will end the conversation as soon as possible and avoid all further conversations. By the way, exactly the same thing happens on Facebook & Co. Anyone who only talks about themselves will hardly come across as sympathetic and ignore them.
BEGGING PROHIBITED
I’m sure you know this as well as I do. You can often meet them in the shopping arcade. There they stand or sit and beg for a few cents. The modern form is begging for likes. Friendly musicians and bands like to invite you to become a fan of their fan page. Actually not reprehensible, after all, you like to help. But unfortunately, it doesn’t help anyone. The band has a fan who is not interested in the posts and is therefore inactive. Facebook then no longer displays the content to inactive fans. The result is a beautified number of dead fans.

YOU SHOULD NOT SPAM
Do you want to participate in a competition with your band and need votes? Of course, you should then start calls to vote. At some point, however, the whole thing turns in the direction of spamming and then you achieve exactly the opposite. The fans and friends are annoyed by it and see you as annoying, so think carefully about what you do and especially how often!
A NEWSLETTER BRINGS MORE THAN ANY FAN PAGE
If you are thinking about what else you are missing in your marketing plan, then do not forget one thing at all. Plan best from the beginning with a newsletter. There is no more effective tool to sell and get your fans to your shows.
BE AUTHENTIC
Do you just think your own music is cool? Don’t believe a pig! So linked to friends and good bands on you you stand. Also share events of other musicians on your fan page, post videos of them, and show that people are behind the websites. Everything else seems not only arrogant but also unprofessional.
WITHOUT VIDEO IT WILL BE NOTHING
Organizers and bookers not only want to hear but also see what you can do. Make your own videos and film yourself at your gigs. For really small money there is a lot to get there.
NO GROOVE WITHOUT THE RIGHT TIMING
In your band, you hopefully have a good drummer, on the Internet, it is important to plan it correctly. If you want to release a CD, then good planning with suitable timing is also the A&O. Teaser video, song snippets, and text excerpts at the right times make you curious and hot about your latest work.
FIND YOUR WAY
What makes you cooler as a band than any other band? There are thousands out there who are at least the same as you. Work on your outfits, improve your show, and above all, stay yourself. The eye is known to eat with it and also wants to be pampered. The difference between two bands that write equally good songs almost always differs in the presentation. Every single one in the band presents the band. If everyone is aware of it, then there will also be a good show. Online as well as offline.
